For the seventh consecutive year, the Aledo ISD Board of Trustees adopted a budget that included a lower tax rate on Monday night, lowering the rate by $0.0110, bringing the seven-year total reduction to more than $0.40.

“It has taken three years of tough decisions and continued fiscal responsibility to be able to pass a balanced budget this year, so we are grateful to Superintendent Dr. Susan Bohn, CFO Earl Husfeld and our entire staff for doing the difficult work to get us to this point,” Aledo ISD Board of Trustees President Forrest Collins said. “We are grateful for this work and thankful to be able to prioritize teacher and staff pay with the additional funding given to us by the Texas legislature.

Over the last six years, the Maintenance and Operations side of the tax rate has been compressed after the passing of House Bill 3 in 2019. Trustees adopted a new total tax rate of $1.1942 on Monday night.

Passing this budget officially implements the action taken during a special called board meeting in July for the 2025-2026 staff compensation plan. That plan - which was unanimously approved by the board - gives teachers pay increases anywhere from 5.5% to 12.64% ($3,325 to $9,000) and all non-teaching staff with a 5% pay increase from the midpoint plus an Aledo ISD Experience Stipend.

2025-2026 Aledo ISD compensation highlights include:

  • Full-time Teachers:
    • 1-4 years of completed experience = $3,325 to $3,800 pay increase (5.50-6.25%)
    • 5-plus years of completed experience = $6,000 to $9,000 pay increase (9.77-12.64%)
    • This includes the House Bill 2 raise PLUS a Teaching Experience Stipend based on total years of teaching experience.
  • All other staff, including but not limited to paraprofessionals, transportation, maintenance, child nutrition and police staff:
    • Pay increase of 5% of pay grade midpoint
    • PLUS Aledo ISD Experience Stipend based on total years of service to Aledo ISD.

Starting teacher salaries increase from $60,200 to $63,000, the district has implemented free Pre-K for full-time teachers, and AISD is providing an increase of $25 per month toward the district’s medical insurance premium contribution, bringing the total annual health insurance contribution to $3,600. Aledo ISD also previously announced additional targeted compensation and stipends, paid training and work/flex days, and substitute coverage each grading period for certain special education staff.

“After two years of budget cuts that totaled approximately $5.6 million, we are excited to be able to both invest in our staff in this way and also provide continued tax relief to our Aledo ISD taxpayers with another reduction in the overall tax rate,” Bohn said.

Also discussed at the meeting, Aledo ISD continues to work with an outside financial advisor looking at market conditions and finding opportunities to save taxpayers money over time. To this end, Trustees voted to prepay $10,120,000 of bonds, saving the district and its taxpayers $7.8 million in future interest costs. This brings Aledo ISD’s bond savings to more than $62.6 million since 2006 by actively managing the district’s debt portfolio.

For 22-straight years, Aledo ISD has earned a Superior Rating with the Schools FIRST system, and Aledo ISD has earned Transparency Stars by the Texas Comptroller each year since 2019. These designations acknowledge quality performance in the management of AISD’s financial resources, providing robust information regarding the district’s financial operation on the AISD website, a combination of adequate spending flexibility and robust reserves, and more.
